Position Summary:
Hand Hygiene Observers will be tasked with providing direct observation and just in time coaching of healthcare workers’ compliance with the hand hygiene practices. Ensure adherence to UNM Hospital and departmental policies and procedures. No patient care assignment.

Detailed responsibilities:
* OBSERVE - Direct observation of healthcare worker’s hand hygiene practices and ensure that all hand hygiene practices are in accordance with established policies and Leapfrog requirements
* COACH - Intervene and provide just in time coaching to non-compliant health care workers about correct hand hygiene practices including techniques.
* DATA - Collects data on hand hygiene practices through direct observation of health care workers entering and exiting patient rooms across all inpatient locations
* REPORT - Track and report hand hygiene compliance observations through audit tool
* ANALYSIS - Enters direct observation hand hygiene data using an electronic tool and perform analysis
* RECORDS - Maintain accurate records of hand hygiene observations
* REPORT - Report findings from hand hygiene observation to infection control
* KNOWLEDGE - Demonstrate knowledge of infection control standards and protocols
* COLLABORATE - Work collaboratively with healthcare workers and other members of the healthcare team
* MEETINGS - Attend meetings and trainings related to hand hygiene regulations and practices

Education:
Essential:
* High School or GED Equivalent
Nonessential:
* Bachelor's Degree

Experience:
Essential:

1 year related experience

Physical Conditions:
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (Frequently: activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
