Day & Night Shifts

Base Rate based on experience: Minimum $15.97 (PCT I) to Max: $23.32 (PCT IV)

Receive 17% Weekday Nights, 26% Weekend Nights and 15% Weekend Day shift differentials.

Progressive Care Units (PCU)

Coronary Care Subacute

A cardiac progressive care/step-down unit that provides specialized care for patients who require close cardiac monitoring but no longer need ICU-level care. The unit cares for patients with a variety of cardiac conditions, including those transitioning from critical care, and focuses on continued treatment, monitoring, stabilization, and recovery.

The Adult Inpatient Admission Unit (PAAU) 

A fast‑paced, high‑throughput unit that serves as both an Observation Unit and a bridge for patients transitioning from the Emergency Department to the Progressive Care Units.

Adult Oncology

Serve patients who are receiving chemotherapy, stem cell transplants, radiation and more. We also participate in research measures aimed at preventing and treating cancer diagnoses. We are New Mexico's only NCI designated Comprehensive Cancer Center and one of only 51 in the United States.

Family Medicine Inpatient (3-N)

Patient population ranges from End Stage Renal Disease, Liver Failure, Mobility Issues, Surgical and more. We also are the secondary unit for Cystic Fibrosis patients. 

Gen Med/SAC (4-W)

Care for patients with many different conditions and disease processes. Our specialized care population are patients with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension.

General Medicine (5-W)

Care for patients with many different conditions and disease processes. Our specialized care population are patients with Cystic Fibrosis.

General Surgery/Transplant (6-S)

Care for primarily pre-op and post-op renal transplant patients as well as some patients needing to be treated for transplant rejection. We also care for surgical oncology, hepatobiliary and general surgery patients. 

Trauma Subacute (4-E)

Patient population consists of primarily trauma patients along with specialties such as chronic pain, complex ENT patients, and everything in between. 

Orthopedics (3-S)

Specialize in patent care who have experienced traumatic, skeletal injury and require surgical intervention to properly heal. Secondary service line is Urology, with a particular focus on providing care for patients who received robot-assisted surgeries.

Surgical Specialty Unit (4-S)

Service a wide variety of patient populations being cared by services such as General Surgery, Emergency General Surgery, Urology, Plastics and more. We see a lot of patients with surgical drains, complicated wounds, wound VAC’s, chest tubes, indwelling urinary catheters, ostomies and the occasional trach.

Neuroscience (5-S)

Serve patients who have experienced stroke, seizures, traumatic brain injuries, spinal injuries, multiple sclerosis and more. We have been designated by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association as a Primary Advanced Stroke Center.

ICUs

Neuroscience ICU (NSI)

Provide specialized critical care for patients with complex neurological and neurosurgical conditions, including stroke, brain injury, and other acute neurological disorders.

Medical/Cardiac ICU (MICU)

Provide high-acuity care for critically ill patients with complex medical and cardiac conditions requiring advanced monitoring, interventions, and life-support therapies.

Cardio Thoracic Vascular ICU (CTVICU)

Provide specialized, high-acuity care to critically ill patients recovering from cardiothoracic and vascular surgeries, such as open-heart procedures, lung resections, and complex vascular repairs. Utilizing advanced clinical skills, the role involves managing life-sustaining therapies such as mechanical ventilation, vasoactive infusions, intra-aortic balloon pumps, and ECMO.

Trauma/Surgical ICU (TSI)

Provide high-acuity critical care for patients with severe traumatic injuries and complex surgical needs, including patients requiring advanced monitoring and life-support therapies.

Intermediate Critical Care

Provide specialized care for patients who require closer monitoring and a higher level of care than a traditional medical-surgical unit, often serving as a transition between intensive and acute care.

Emergency Department

New Mexico’s only Level I Trauma Center.

Shift: Days & Nights

Position Summary:
Provide direct, non-invasive, and routine patient care and related support services within an in-patient or out-patient environment. Interview patients and take vital signs. Perform activities of daily living (ADLs). Maintain supplies and equipment. Delivers dirty instrument trays. Transport patients. Assist orientation of new staff members. Position patients unable to do self- care. Assist patients with prescribed exercise regimen; perform routine tube care; change catheter bags; collect non sterile specimens; perform oral suctioning; perform I&O including documentation of bowel & bladder function. Observe patients. Operate Hoyer lift; perform daily heights and weights. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.

Detailed responsibilities:
* PATIENT OBSERVATION - Observe patient to ensure their safety and well being; report observations to Charge Nurse or appropriate designee
* PATIENT CARE - Provide basic patient care; take and record vital signs to include temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure and intake-output measurements
* PATIENT CARE - Assist with activities of daily living (ADL): meals, ambulation, hygiene, linen change and toileting as instructed
* PATIENT CARE - Maintain therapeutic plan of care and minute to minute care of patient who is at extreme risk to self or others
* PATIENT CARE - Complete documentation as required on the Electronic Medical Record
* PATIENT CARE - Complete specific skills listed in the "University of New Mexico, Unlicensed Assistive Personnel Specific Functions" Matrix
* DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops
* PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
* PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
* PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
* PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
* PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"

* CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days

Physical Conditions:
Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
