An inviting culture

The diversity of this region is reflected in the activity on our home campus. Founded in 1889 as New Mexico’s flagship institution, The University of New Mexico hosts events ranging from the arts to culture to sports—plus boasts a nationally recognized campus arboretum and the popular duck pond! Stepping beyond campus, the ethnic tapestry of the area is reflected in its architecture, artwork and cultural centers, making our home region a center of authentic Southwestern culture.

Hungry for more

While New Mexico is known for it's red and green chiles and New Mexican cuisine, a unique blend of Mexican, Native American, and Spanish flavors, the Albuquerque area has restaurants catering to all tastes. From sushi bars to pizzerias to barbeque, there's no shortage of great food to choose from.

A region with natural charm

Living in the Albuquerque area means having easy access to the great outdoors. Whether you’re rafting down the Rio Grande, horseback riding in the high desert or hiking through the stunning Sandia Mountains, or skiing in Santa Fe, you'll never run out of places to reconnect with nature. And with 310 days of sunshine a year, blue skies will be with you in every season. Oh, and if you have a special furry friend? Albuquerque is often ranked one of the most pet-friendly cities in the country.
