Partnering to train people with disabilities

Project SEARCH Partners
Project SEARCH

Since 2014, we’ve been proud partners with Project SEARCH, a one-year school-to-work internship program for 18-22-year-olds with disabilities. Collaborating with various local and statewide agencies, we provide a learning environment where students develop skills and gain increased confidence, self-esteem and independence. The program’s goal is to prepare students for employment by the end of the internship.

Helping all in our community to thrive

At UNMH, we’re actively working to ensure people of different abilities have access to resources as well as opportunities for learning, growth and career advancement. Providing opportunities through The Nene and Jamie Koch Project SEARCH Training Program is just one way we’re living out our mission to support all members of our community.

One thing we know is that we can’t do this important work alone. Hear what some of our community partners with Project SEARCH are saying about the program.

Meet Brian

“One moment that makes me feel proud is earning our 100% outcome performance award at last year’s National Project SEARCH conference here in Albuquerque. Every one of our students obtained competitive and gainful employment.”

Paloma Ortega-Hart, Lead Employment Consultant, Best Buddies New Mexico

Meet Paloma

“Early on, one of our interns was struggling with going to work every day, but by the time she entered her last rotation, she was conversing with her co-workers, working independently and excited about the prospect of working after graduation. These students are capable of much more than what society tells them they can do.”

Meet George

“I’ve been connected to UNM Hospital for three years now. I would describe the team culture here to be terrific. The departments are helpful to our interns and have been great to work with. It’s such a wonderful environment for all people, and very inclusive for those who have disabilities.”
