Position Summary:
Supervise all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the Native American Health Services Department. Ensure adequate staffing, personnel management (including mentoring, Kronos, and performance appraisals), ensure complete and accurate documentation for all activities of the department and basic program management when needed. Ensure staff accountability, provide troubleshooting to areas on technical problems related to staff support, develop reports, track trends, and develops training and outreach for various external and internal groups while giving excellent customer service to all stakeholders. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. No patient care assignment.
Detailed responsibilities:
* SUPERVISION - Develop efficient organizational structure. Supervise employees and select, terminate, train, educate, correct deficiencies, perform appraisals, issue discipline, counsel, schedule work assignments; encourage staff teamwork and growth initiatives
* SUPERVISION - Allocate and schedule work within the area, ensuring that all department requirements are covered during operating hours; fill in for staff as required during breaks and other absences
* SUPERVISION - Perform routine personnel and payroll functions; monitor and maintain sick and annual leave records
* LEADERSHIP - Provide leadership through identification of problems and opportunities for improvement, program planning, implementation, and evaluation
* ADMINISTRATION - Perform various administrative functions such as monitoring expenditures and preparing reports and correspondence; may participate in a variety of research projects to develop service plans; may propose changes to program policies and procedures
* QUALITY SERVICE - Deliver quality service and act in a positive way with all customers to complete assigned functions; identify, recommend and implement opportunities for continuous improvement
* CARE COORDINATION - Coordinate with community health workers, case managers, and social workers to overcome obstacles for patients. Provide consultative services to Clinical Social Work and Discharge Planners; coordinate with all appropriate hospital agencies to facilitate admissions for Native Americans
* COORDINATION - Coordinate with and serve as a liaison with the UNM SRMC Office of Native American Affairs, other UNM Health and Health Sciences departments, community and government agencies, and other individuals as assigned
* COLLABORATION - Collaborate with medical providers, multidisciplinary team members and community resource providers to assist patient to meet above described treatment goals
* LIAISON - Under scope of position, serve as liaison for Tribal issues and problem-solving for Native American patients
* CUSTOMER RELATIONS - Establish and maintain good rapport and effective working relationships with patients, visitors, physicians and Hospitals employees
* PROGRAM MGT - Work with other staff and management to ensure timely, high quality, efficient management of assigned programs
* COMMUNITY OUTREACH - Build and maintain collaborative relationships with community agencies and community groups. Represent the department and Hospitals at community meetings. Participate in health fairs, presentations and community functions to increase community awareness of services available from the Hospitals
* BILLING - Review and ensure patient billing is accurate and in compliance with financial policies, procedures and contractual requirements
* RECORDS - Maintain reports and records; collect statistical data for administrative and/or quality improvement purposes
* EDUCATION - Conduct educational sessions with hospital staff to increase awareness of Native American health trends, payment programs, and to facilitate customer service and cultural humility; conduct presentations on behalf of the hospital with various community leadership groups
* REPORTS - Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports related to program operations as well as other special reports as necessary
* MEETINGS - Participate and represent the organization at meetings and events; serve as a liaison between organization personnel, patients, families, community entities and community leaders; ensure quality service and customer satisfaction
* SAFETY - Maintain awareness and ensure staff compliance with safety requirements
* CONFIDENTIALITY - Maintain strict patient confidentiality as per UNM Hospitals and department policies
* DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops

Physical Conditions:
