In 1952, UNM Hospital was built on Native American grounds, with the promise to provide culturally competent and inclusive care to all New Mexicans. UNM Health is New Mexico's only Level I Trauma Center—we care for patients with the most complex conditions from across the state. Additionally, we are the first NIH-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center and award-winning Advanced Care Stroke Center. UNM Health providers specialize in over 150 areas of medicine and employ over 7,000 professionals. Together, we receive 900,000 outpatient visits, 22,000 surgical cases and 100,000 emergency room visits each year.

The state's largest community mental health care provider, UNM Psychiatric Center provides a full spectrum of behavioral health care for thousands of New Mexicans each year. In addition to emergency and urgent psychiatric care, our inpatient facility has 48 beds for adults and seniors. Our Rio Rancho location also provides care in opioid addiction and anxiety, as well as a wide spectrum of innovative outpatient services.

Position Summary:

Responsible for the ongoing operation, development, direction, supervision and administration of the UNM Children's Psychiatric Center and the University Psychiatric Center (adult). Reports to and works in conjunction with the ACNO for Behavioral Health to establish goals, objectives, and organizational philosophy to be consistent with organizations Clinical Operations Goals. Ensure quality of care, patient satisfaction, staff satisfaction, cost effective operations, optimal performance of personnel, and service to the community. Assists the ACNO with the development of strategic and operational plans for area of responsibility. Support education and research in conjunction with Medical Directors. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. No patient care assignment.

Detailed responsibilities:
* DIRECTION - Direct activities of the department and/or programs in accordance with Hospitals policies and objectives
* SUPERVISION - Develop efficient organizational structure. Supervise employees and select, terminate, train, educate, correct deficiencies, perform appraisals, issue discipline, counsel, schedule work assignments; encourage staff teamwork and growth initiatives
* COLLABORATION - Collaborate with medical staff in the operations of programs/services
* OPERATIONS - Develop plans and make recommendations relative to organizational and departmental operations such as organizational structure, space and layout, equipment use, work flow, and staffing
* STRATEGIC PLANNING – Assist ACNO in the strategic planning of both short and long-range plans and participate/lead in the implementation
* IMPROVEMENT - In conjunction with medical director, recommend changes for improvement in program content and in short/long-range planning in order to maintain competitiveness in the healthcare market
* ANALYSIS - Perform continual analysis of staffing, quality assurance, management review, budget reviews and performance evaluations
* STAFFING - Ensure staffing is appropriate to patient need
* STATUS UPDATES - Advise senior management regarding program and project status, progress, and implementation issues
* RESOURCES - Allocate resources and establish priorities; provide direction for monitoring supply inventory and use
* DECISION MAKING - Participate in key decision making regarding overall planning, work redesign, and staff development associated with implementing changes in patient care delivery
* BUSINESS PLANS - Prepare business plans to support new programs and expansion proposals
* DATA - Present valid, accurate data in a variety of formats for numerous departments and committees
* PROBLEM SOLVING - Report and investigate patient complaints as required and recommend solutions
* STAFF DEVELOPMENT - Establish competencies, training sessions, education programs for staff and managers; promote staff satisfaction and recognition activities
* COMPLIANCE - Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies governing health care delivery and the rules of accrediting bodies by continually monitoring appropriate Hospitals' operations, programs and physical properties; initiate changes where required
* COMMITTEES AND MEETINGS - Participate in hospital/medical staff meetings and committees as required
* SERVICE - Attend and serve on professional/civic service organizations as a UNM Hospitals representative
* POLICY & PROCEDURE - Review and update policies and regulations, communicate the results of this work both verbally and in writing through designated channels
* BUDGET - Develop and administer the division's annual budget; monitor and approve expenditures
* DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops

Physical Conditions:
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (Frequently: activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
