Together, we receive 900,000 outpatient visits, 22,000 surgical cases and 100,000 emergency room visits each year.
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Senior Executive Director Critical Care is responsible for the ongoing development, direction, supervision and administration of patient care programs including Surgical Services, Adult Emergency and Intensive Care Units. Serve as the primary collaborator between department directors, hospital administrators and physicians. Develop strategic and operational plans for areas of responsibility. Support education and research. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with medical and healthcare system staff to ensure effective, results-oriented outcomes. Assist in developing and revising policies and procedures, recruitment, retention, training and quality assurance. Promote high quality services with optimal efficiency in the administration of fiscal affairs and other activities concerning assigned areas at University of New Mexico Hospital. Ensure adherence to Hospital and Departmental Policies and Procedures. No patient care assignment.
Detailed responsibilities:
* SUPERVISION - Develop efficient organizational structure. Supervise employees and select, terminate, train, educate, correct deficiencies, perform appraisals, issue discipline, counsel, schedule work assignments; encourage staff teamwork and growth initiatives
* DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops
* DIRECTION - Direct activities of the department and/or programs in accordance with Hospitals policies and objectives
* BUSINESS PLANS - Prepare business plans to support new programs and expansion proposals
* IMPROVEMENTS - Recommend changes for improvement in program content and in short/long-range planning in order to maintain competitiveness in the healthcare market
* COMMITTEES AND MEETINGS - Participate in hospital/medical staff meetings and committees as required
* BUDGET - Develop and administer the division's annual budget; monitor and approve expenditures
* PLANNING - Analyze areas of planning and operational efficiency and make recommendations for improvement. Assist in planning new services and programs
* FINANCES - Ensure proper allocation of financial resources, and monitor department budgets and spending
* QUALITY - Work to ensure staff provide quality, evidence-based patient care. Monitor service quality and procedures, and evaluate outcomes. Support achievement of improved patient satisfaction and improved patient outcomes.
* GOALS AND PLANS - Participate in the development of long range goals and strategic plans for assigned area(s)
* COORDINATE - Interact with all appropriate department managers to develop, coordinate, and integrate cost management programs into departmental services by assisting with program development, data collection, analysis, implementation, monitoring, and follow-up
* COMPLIANCE - Ensure the department/areas comply with all applicable fiscal and regulatory requirements
* REPORTS - Prepare periodic reports for administration as required
* POLICY & PROCEDURE - Develop and recommend area policies, procedures and programs to ensure departmental and program effectiveness
* PROJECTS - Develop and determine priorities and continually monitor status of special projects
* SERVICE - Attend and serve on professional/civic service organizations as a UNM Hospitals representative
* DEVELOPMENT - Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise
