Position Summary:
The neurosciences ICU Technical Nurse Specialist is dedicated to the acquisition, clinical operation, staff and learner training in the use of (and within their appropriate scope of practice, interpretation of) multi-modal monitoring equipment. The Nurse Specialist in neuromonitoring technology must function as a bridge between the technology and neurocritical care clinicians, ensuring data is translated into quality clinical information. This position must keep abreast of the rapidly evolving multiple modalities, devices, data streams and software for quantitative and qualitative interpretation within neurosciences critical care, and effectively spread that knowledge to all appropriate members of the care team. Ensures adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.
Detailed responsibilities:
* PATIENT CARE - Serve as the technical and clinical expert for invasive and non-invasive neuromonitoring, including having technical knowledge of equipment function, software interfaces, multimodal data integration, and troubleshooting; ensure organized and accurate patient data available for clinical decision making; serve as primary liaison between clinical and research teams
* PATIENT CARE - Deliver safe direct care to an assigned group of patients as required
* ENVIRONMENT - Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with Hospitals standards
* CARE PLAN - Work in collaboration with the healthcare team, implement and document individualized care plans incorporating age specific considerations, including discharge planning and patient/family teaching
* EMERGENCY MEASURES - Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden, adverse developments in patients
* TESTS AND PROCEDURES - Assist with special tests and procedures, ensure proper consent has been obtained
* MEDICATION - Administer medication, including IV medication, via the Seven Rights; document and communicate clinical findings
* MEDICAL RECORDS - Ensure that patient medical records contain necessary information
* EQUIPMENT - Dedicated to the acquisition, clinical operation, staff and learner training in the use of (within appropriate scope of practice, interpretation of) multi-modal monitoring equipment
* QUALITY - Implement processes and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable quality metrics and practice expectations
* EDUCATE - Is the primary resource for initial and ongoing training and education of nurses, residents, techs and providers in the use of multimodal monitoring equipment
* DEVELOPMENT - Keeps abreast of the rapidly evolving multiple modalities, devices, data streams and software for quantitative and qualitative interpretation within neurosciences critical care, and effectively spread that knowledge to all appropriate members of the care team
* POLICIES - Work within Hospitals, Nursing division and departmental policies
* PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
* PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
* PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
* PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
* PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"
* PATIENT CARE – Acts as the Epilepsy Coordinator working in the clinical Neuroscience Center (CNC Neurology Clinic); works closely in a multidisciplinary team of NAEC level 4 epilepsy center; serves as the primary point of contact for the overall care coordination of the multidisciplinary teams, including physicians of epileptologists, neurosurgeons, neuro-radiologist, neuropsychologists, neuropsychiatrists, social worker, advanced practitioners, EEG lab, nurses in EMU and clinic, and other support departments
* COORDINATE – Arrange weekly epilepsy surgery conference, work closely with the surgery scheduling team and EEG lab to arrange procedures in the operating room, and keep track of epilepsy surgery work up lists; neuromodulation therapy and outcomes
* TRAINING – Educates the patient and families about their diagnosis, self-management of seizures, and medical and surgical treatment options

3 years directly related experience
Nonessential:
2 Years Neurocritical Care Experience
Experience in epilepsy or neurology such as EMU, NSI, Neuroscience ward or clinic
Credentials:
Essential:
* CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days
* RN in NM or as allowed by reciprocal agreement by NM
* Advanced Cardiac Life Support w/in 30 days of position
Physical Conditions:
Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
