Position Summary:
Bone Density Technologists perform radiographic procedures for Diagnostic Radiology, specifically bone densitometry exams, while applying principles of radiation protection. They deliver qualify service and positive interactions with customers to assist the patient in completing bone density exams. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include; Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.
Detailed responsibilities:
* PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
* DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature and attending in-services, meetings and workshops
* PROCEDURES - Perform high quality Bone Density exams, to include imaging of spine, forearm, hip, and/or distal femur as determined by protocol or patient anatomic need
* X-RAY - Follow prescribed techniques to adjust equipment, calculate exposure factors, position and immobilize patients as necessary and perform post-exam processing required for radiologist accurate interpretation
* QUALITY CONTROL - Ensure continuity of care for current scan as compared to previous DEXA exams which is critical for consistent interpretation purposes
* PATIENT CARE - Assume care for physical needs of the patient during examinations and procedures, providing clear and concise instructions to gain patient compliance
* PATIENT CARE - Obtain thorough medical and medication history from patient to provide to radiologist
* IMAGING - Properly position patient for exam to ensure accurate body composition analysis
* QUALITY CONTROL - Assume responsibility for portions of the quality control programs and communicate with the Health Physicist for image quality issues quickly to prevent imaging analysis errors
* PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
* PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
* PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
* PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"
* OBSERVATION - Observe patient and equipment during procedures; document patient reactions or problems on requisition and report immediately to supervisor
* FLOAT - May be required to float to another work assignment/area
* SAFETY - Provide protection to patients, family members, staff and self in accordance with prescribed radiation safety standards and ALARA
* PATIENT ASSISTANCE - Assist in reception area, scheduling office and/or film library; aid patients and transport them, as necessary
* SUPPLIES - Clean assigned area; maintain stock supply levels through inventory control and requisitioning
* CLINICAL EDUCATION - Instruct specific units of didactic and/or clinical education as required to students, clinical staff and residents

* American Registry of Radiologic Technologists License
* NM Med Imag & Rad Therapy Lic (NMMIRT)
* ARRT or ICSD Bone Densitometry w/in 18 mos of position
* CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days
Physical Conditions:
Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.

* May perform subordinate tasks in high census/vol
* Tuberculosis testing is completed upon hire and additionally as required
