Position Summary:
Supervise and monitor all security activities including protection of patients, visitors, staff and property. Responsible for personnel efficiency and performance. Provide leadership and act as a liaison to law enforcement and as an initial incident commander for security related emergencies. Serve as a role model to promote a positive work environment. Ensure Adherence to Hospital and departmental policies and procedures. No patient care assignment.

Detailed responsibilities:
* PROTECTION - Provide personal protection to all patients, visitors or staff in the form of assistance with uncooperative, difficult or violent individuals
* INVESTIGATE - Conduct investigations and follow-up regarding reports of misappropriation of hospital property, assault, robbery, burglary, motor vehicle accidents and any other violations of law or hospital policy
* PROCEDURES & REGS - Maintain complete awareness of responsibilities concerning current fire and disaster procedures; maintain complete awareness and compliance with all safety regulations
* ESCORT - Provide escort service to and from medical center offices for all patients, visitors and staff as required
* AMBULANCE - Assist as needed with ground ambulances
* PARKING - Provide parking control as assigned to include monitoring and removing unauthorized vehicles in patient or employee parking areas, fire lanes, reserved areas and all restricted areas
* VEHICLES - Safely operate Hospitals vehicles in compliance with all city, State, Federal and University and departmental regulations and/or policies
* PATROL - Conduct interior and exterior inspections of all assigned areas and lights; fill out safety hazard reports as required
* ROLE MODEL - Serve as a role model to promote a positive work environment
* SAFETY/SECURITY - Respond to any situation that may present a safety hazard or risk to people and property
* COMMUNICATION - Act as a liaison between staff, patients, and visitors to promote and facilitate communication, problem solving, decision making, crisis intervention, and conflict management; refers individuals to appropriate resources
* SUPERVISION - Develop efficient organizational structure. Supervise employees and select, terminate, train, educate, correct deficiencies, perform appraisals, issue discipline, counsel, schedule work assignments; encourage staff teamwork and growth initiatives
* EMERGENCY RESPONSE- React quickly, calmly, and effectively under emergency conditions
* MEETINGS - Attend staff meetings with all department employees on a routine basis to discuss problems, changes in policy, and new procedures for a more efficient and economical operation
* DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops
* DAILY SHIFT REPORT - Maintain a daily report of all encounters during their tour of duty; this includes all significant incidents, duties, or assignments during the shift
* REPORTS - Review reports submitted by officers. Conducts a preliminary review of Security Officer’s reports ensuring that spelling, grammar, and required statements, pictures, or other evidence is collected and documented; conducts incident reports on violations of regulations, policies, procedures, and criminal incidents

Security experience in a hospital setting

Credentials:
Essential:
* Int'l Assoc for Healthcare Security & Safety Cert w/in 1Y
* Valid New Mexico Driver's License
* UNM Vehicle Operator's Permit w/in 60 days
* Obtain and maintain Agressive Behav Cert w/in 1 year
* Obtain and maintain conducted elec weapons trng w/in 1 year
Nonessential:
* Obtain and maintain crisis interventiton cert w/in 1 year

Physical Conditions:
Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.

Working conditions:
Essential:
* Sig Haz: Physical risk/injuries due to combative patients
* May be required to work on ladders or scaffolding
* Sig Hazard: Chemicals, Bio Hazardous Materials req PPE
* Subject to random alcohol and substance testing
* May be required to travel to various work sites
* May perform subordinate tasks in high census/vol
* May be required or is required to perform on-call duties
* May work rotating shifts, holidays and weekends
* Tuberculosis testing is completed upon hire and additionally as required
