Position Summary:
Responsible for developing safety programs, conducting safety training, safety equipment inspection and evaluation, personal protective equipment selection, safety surveys and inspections. Respond to emergencies involving the safety of Hospitals' facilities, employees and patients. Conduct safety and emergency training exercises. Inspect, monitor and report safety compliance for all facilities, new construction sites and facility modifications. Monitor the Hospitals' air quality. Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements, federal, state, local and national safety regulations. Perform accident and hazard report investigation and follow-up. Participate in emergency response drills. Distribute product alert and recall information and maintain the hazard communications program, and take action related to defective medical devices. Monitor conditions of the environment as part of the respiratory protection and hearing conservation programs. Ensure adherence to Hospital’s and departmental policies and procedures. No patient care assignment.

Detailed responsibilities:
* REGULATORY AGENCIES - Develop and implement strategies that ensure the organization maintains a state of perpetual readiness for reviews by regulatory agencies and to achieve a level of quality and service that exceed regulatory requirements
* KNOWLEDGE - Maintain knowledge and keep up to date with regulations and standards including but not limited to OSHA regulations, DOT and EPA storage handling, use and disposal of hazardous and infections waste, PHMSA compressed gas regulations, NIOSH Respiratory Protection regulations and NFPA standards related to fire protection systems, emergency management, fire extinguishers training and inspection
* SURVEILLANCE - Conducts routine hazard surveillance of patient care areas, industrial and business occupancies, and prepares summaries and initiate corrective action
* DRILLS - Coordinates, conducts, and analyzes fire drills in patient care areas, industrial and business occupancies, prepare summaries and provide recommendations for improvement
* TRAINING - Assists with and conducts training on various safety related topics
* WORK ENVIRONMENT - Maintains full understanding on how the work environment can be affected by ergonomics, toxicology, and industrial hygiene
* EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS - Coordinates emergency preparedness and safety with management, departments, and staff throughout the organization
* COORDINATES – Coordinates injury investigation and analysis to identify root cause and trends
* CONSULTANT - Provides compliance consultation to managers and supervisors
* TEAMS – Participate in and work collaboratively on special project teams
* POLICIES/PROCEDURES - Develop policies, procedures and guidelines that fully meet compliance objectives and ensure organizational success; support the organization’s Safety Officer in the implementation and review of safety policies and procedures
* CONTRACTORS - Coordinate communication of contractor EHS requirements and provide vendor training as needed. Interface with contractors and monitor performance and adherence to organization safety policies and procedures
* COMMUNICATE - Communicate in a positive, professional manner with all UNMH patients, visitors and staff

Nonessential:
Bilingual English, Spanish, Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo 3 years directly related experience

Credentials:
Essential:
* Certified Healthcare Safety Professional w/in 1 year

Physical Conditions:
Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

* Tuberculosis testing is completed upon hire and additionally as required
