Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Director to join our Neurosurgery team at the University of New Mexico Hospital. This leadership role involves supervising and leading a team of 21 APPs across four campuses, specializing in Tumor, Functional Neurosurgery, Spine, Vascular, Consults, Pediatrics, and Night Coverage. The APP Director will work closely with residents and faculty, fostering a collaborative and educational environment. Direct and coordinate the clinical and management activities of Inpatient Advanced Practice Providers and quality patient care. Support education and research in conjunction with area medical directors and division chairs. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.
Detailed responsibilities:
* SUPERVISION - Develop efficient organizational structure. Supervise employees and select, terminate, train, educate, correct deficiencies, perform appraisals, issue discipline, counsel, schedule work assignments; encourage staff teamwork and growth initiatives
* SUPERVISION - Direct APRNs, Physician Assistants and/or Psychologists, Clinical Counselors and Optometrists in accordance with Hospitals Policies and Procedures
* MANAGE - Interview applicants, hire, train, supervise, evaluate, counsel, discipline and terminate departmental personnel
* BUDGET - Develop and administer the division's annual budget; monitor and approve expenditures
* STANDARDS - Establish specific standards and objectives for clinical departments; ensure implementation of and compliance with standards, objectives and operating policies and procedures
* LIAISON - Act as liaison as necessary between physicians, staff, patients, families, and other departments to promote and facilitate communication, problem solving, decision-making, crisis intervention, resource utilization, and conflict management
* RECORDS - Maintain departmental reports and records; collect statistical data for administrative and regulatory purposes
* COMMITTEES AND MEETINGS - Attend technical and administrative meetings; participate in committee functions; participate in hospital-wide activities and committees within the scope of this position or as directed
* PATIENT CARE - Assess, diagnose and develop treatment plans; implement treatment, follow-up and evaluate patient within the scope of practice protocols as outlined by state statute
* PATIENT CARE - Evaluate and revise intervention care/treatment plan with patient and family as necessary to achieve improved health
* PATIENT CARE - Provide education for patients and/or families about preventative care, medical issues and use of the prescribed medical treatment
* DOCUMENTATION - Provide accurate documentation of patient care, document orders, directives, procedures and patient responses in the medical record and communicate them to other members of the health care team; maintain accurate, legible and confidential records
* PATIENT CARE - Work as a team member with medical/nursing/counseling staff to provide comprehensive care and promote continuity of care
* EDUCATION - Guide, teach, support and serve as a clinical resource nursing and medical staff
* RESEARCH - Support research by conducting or participating in research studies; incorporate findings in clinical practice
* EDUCATION - Provide and coordinate clinical learning experience for staff; ensure patient education
* DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops
* PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
* PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
* PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
* PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
* PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"

* Related Discipline w/in 36 Months of Assignment
Experience:
Essential:
1 year directly related experience Completion of the Hospitals approved training program with in six months of assignment
Nonessential:
Bilingual English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in an academic medical center. Prior experience supervising and leading a team of APPs. Strong background in Tumor, Functional Neurosurgery, Spine, Vascular, Consults, Pediatrics, and Night Coverage.
Credentials:
Essential:
* ACLS or PALS as applicable
* CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days
* Advanced Practice RN or Physician Asst Lic & NCCPA Cert
Physical Conditions:
Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
