Position Summary:
Lead and facilitate meetings, guide discussions, and influence stakeholders of all levels of the organization. Direct and achieve change through others as demonstrated by collaboration with partner departments, timely communication and completion of action plans related to clinical risk management initiatives. Act as facilitator for assigned initiatives and create an environment for completion and success; assure completion of RCAs, including action plans in concert with appropriate departments; track and trend RCA data. Provide clinical risk consultation to hospital leaders and medical staff on an as needed basis. Manage multiple complex risk management investigations, including the institution wide root cause analysis (RCA) process analyses and prepare root cause analyses (RCAs) to meet organizational needs. Effectively communicate clinical risk management information and recommendations to various stakeholders, including clinical staff, management, and leadership. Ongoing communication with clinical risk partners to include: Patient Advocate, Quality Outcomes, Security, Nursing, Medical Staff, Office of University Counsel. Collaborate with appropriate personnel across the organization to plan, develop, implement and evaluate protocols, patient care policies and procedures, and standards of care through various clinical risk processes, including RCAs, quality committees, clinical risk initiatives. Provide training and education to healthcare staff on clinical risk management principles, best practices, and relevant regulations or standards. No patient care assignment. Detailed responsibilities:
* LEADERSHIP - Plan, direct and manage programs and activities related to organizational and departmental clinical risk
* LEADERSHIP - Direct and achieve change through others as demonstrated by collaboration with partner departments, timely communication and completion of action plans related to clinical risk management initiatives
* LEADERSHIP - Lead and facilitate meetings, guide discussions, and influence stakeholders of all levels of the organization
* CLINICAL RISK ID, MGMT & MITGATION - Application of foundational knowledge of performance and process improvement (PPI) and change management methods to support clinical risk management initiatives to guide the organization towards patient safety
* CLINICAL RISK ID, MGMT & MITGATION - Identification and review of patient safety events for sentinel/never events or other clinical risk management to determine potential clinical risk interventions
* CLINICAL RISK ID, MGMT & MITGATION - Consider, review and develop potential strategic clinical risk initiatives through root cause analysis (RCA) using RCA criteria and process improvement protocols to facilitate development and implementation of clinical risk strategic initiatives
* CLINICAL RISK ID, MGMT & MITGATION - Analyze data, identify trends, and collaborate with appropriate departments to develop effective solutions
* CLINICAL RISK CONSULTATION - Provide clinical risk consultation to hospital and medical staff on an as needed basis
* CLINICAL RISK CONSULTATION - Provide clinical risk consultation in the management and reporting of events to administrative and clinical leadership and staff
* PROJECT COORDINATION - Manage multiple complex risk management investigations, including the institution wide root cause analysis (RCA) process analyses and prepare root cause analyses (RCAs) to meet organizational needs; integrate with Health Sciences Center risk management
* PROJECT COORDINATION - Lead and facilitate meetings, guide discussions, and influence stakeholders of all levels of the organization
* PROJECT COORDINATION - Lead the review of serious occurrences including sentinel/never events, requiring Root Cause Analysis or Failure Mode & Effects Analysis
* PROJECT COORDINATION - Review of preventable adverse events
* PROJECT COORDINATION - Initiate investigation to determine if further action is required
* PROJECT COORDINATION - Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for those incidents that meet the criteria
* PROJECT COORDINATION - In collaboration with the Department of Quality Outcomes, disseminate lessons learned and process improvement plans effectively throughout the organization
* COMMUNICATION AND ALIGNMENT- Inform and involve the appropriate leaders of sentinel/never events including
* COMMUNICATION AND ALIGNMENT - Effectively communicate risk management information and recommendations to various stakeholders, including clinical staff, management, and leadership; ongoing communication with clinical risk partners to include: Patient Advocate, Quality Outcomes, Security, Nursing, Medical Staff, Office of University Counsel
* COLLABORATION - Participate in organizational quality initiatives focused on the improvement of delivery of safe patient care and services as well as participate in a variety of committees within the hospital to improve quality, safety and to reduce organizational risk
* COLLABORATION - Participate in organizational collaborative initiatives which support the improvement of the delivery of healthcare services
* COLLABORATION - Analyze data, identify trends, and collaborate with appropriate departments to develop effective solutions
* COLLABORATION - Collaborate with appropriate personnel across the organization to plan, develop, implement and evaluate protocols, patient care policies and procedures, and standards of care through various clinical risk processes, including RCAs, quality committees, clinical risk initiatives
* COLLABORATION - Work collaboratively within the Clinical Risk Management team
* SKILLS APPLICATION AND DEVELOPMENT - Provide training and education to healthcare staff on clinical risk management principles, best practices, and relevant regulations or standards
* SKILLS APPLICATION AND DEVELOPMENT - Knowledge of applicable hospital and clinical standards of practice and organization wide processes for evaluating, monitoring, and improving compliance with internal and external requirements
* SKILLS APPLICATION AND DEVELOPMENT - Application of foundational knowledge of performance and process improvement (PPI) and change management methods to support clinical risk management initiatives
* SKILLS APPLICATION AND DEVELOPMENT - Application of excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to collaborate with diverse teams to effect change
* SKILLS APPLICATION AND DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops such as the American Society for Healthcare Risk Managers (ASHRM)
