Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director Nursing Quality & Process Improvement, the Quality Coordinator Emergency Department is responsible for supporting Emergency Department Staff to ensure consistency in care processes that are associated with preventing patient harm in the admitted patients that remain in the Emergency Department, specifically processes related to sepsis response, C.Diff infections, pressure injuries, VTE, fall risk and CLABSI as well as activities identified to improve patient experience. Ensures adherence to Hospital and Departmental Policies and Procedures. Patient care assignment may include; Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric Age Groups.

Detailed responsibilities:
* MONITORING - Monitor for triggers that necessitate process steps associated with certain clinical indicators or patient status, such as sepsis triggers, potential for skin breakdown, fall risk, VTE risk, IV insertion and change to inpatient admission
* RESPONSE - Respond to bedside for alerts that indicate significant change in patient’s status, assisting the primary nurse with carrying out orders
* DOCUMENTATION - Document adherence to protocols related to alerts
* COMMUNICATION - Communicate to clinical staff, triggers or change in admission status as necessary to ensure completion of subsequent process steps
* CONFIRM - Confirm through observation and or documentation that necessary care processes have been completed
* SUPPORT - Support staff in keeping patient and/or family informed of patient’s status
* PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
* PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
* PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
* PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
* PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"

* Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification
* CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days
* New Mexcio LPN or EMT-P

Physical Conditions:
Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
