This position is for an Investigational Drug Pharmacist at the University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center. In this role, you will have the opportunity to be an integral part of our oncology clinical trials program. You will collaborate closely with the oncology drug studies team, participate as a member of the Institutional Review Board (IRB), and work as a fully integrated member of our oncology pharmacy team. Position Summary:
Responsible for ensuring that investigational drug studies (including similar clinical research involving marketed drugs) conducted in the hospital are carried out in a safe, effective and efficient manner. This is accomplished by working cooperatively with the hospital's medical, nursing, pharmacy, and administrative staff; and the sponsors of investigational drug research. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.

Detailed responsibilities:
* RESEARCH - Coordinate, organize, and direct all activities involving investigational drugs with regards to distribution, inventory control, recordkeeping, medical staff, nursing and pharmacy staff in-services
* PROJECTS - Ensure that all projects involving the use of investigational drugs are conducted in such a manner that the administrative obligations, legal responsibilities, and safe guards of the sponsoring institutions and its staff are fulfilled
* BUDGET - Develop and administer the division's annual budget; monitor and approve expenditures
* PATIENT CARE - Ensure specifically that the safety and well being of the patient participants are maximized
* PATIENT CARE - Ensure proper storage, drug control, packaging, and labeling of drug study medications
* INVENTORY - Maintain a complete inventory of all active and inactive drug study protocols
* PROCEDURES - Ensure the adequate preparation and presentation of drug study protocol procedures
* COMMUNICATION - Ensure that appropriate staff are apprised of all new study protocols that are to be initiated
* RECORDS - Maintain records and drug accountability as required by state, federal, TJC, and sponsoring companies guidelines
* POLICY & PROCEDURES - Assist in the development and review of policies and procedures; quality assessment; quality improvement; and federal, state, and JCAHO regulations
* INVENTORY - Maintain drug study inventory stock, to include clinic inspection of drug study inventory for removal of outdated stock; and ensures replacement of outdated stock
* DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops
* PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
* PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
* PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
* PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
* PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"

* CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days
* Pharmacist License in NM w/in 90 days

Physical Conditions:
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. May require walking or standing to a significant degree or requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or may require working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of materials is negligible.
