Position Summary:Conduct patient education courses in the area of maternity and infant care. Ensures adherence to Hospital and Departmental Policies and Procedures. Ages of patients served include Newborn, Pediatric, Adolescent and Adult age groups.Accountability:
  • Plans, develops, and designs maternity and infant care education and training programs, including preparation, facilitation, and follow-up

  • TRAINING - Present lectures and training to groups and/or individuals, as appropriate

  • Develops or adapts experiential exercises and group intervention tools to be used with large groups or intact teams

  • TRAINING - Conduct needs assessments and develop appropriate curriculum for training programs

  • TRAINING - Assist in the development and compilation of training manuals and other training aids and obtain equipment, training films and other visual aids

  • PROJECTS - Participate in the planning and coordination of special projects, events, and programs

  • REFERRAL - May refer clients to other support services as needed, such as medical evaluation and treatment, social services, and employment services

  • CONTACT - Serve as point of contact in area of expertise

  • PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols

  • PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes

  • PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk

  • PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner

  • PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"

  • Education Requirements:
  • Associate's Degree in related discipline

  • Experience Requirements:
  • 2 years directly related experience

  • Licensure/Certification Requirements:
  • Certified Childbirth Educator

  • CPR Certification for Healthcare/BLS Providers or for Professional Rescuers or must obtain within 30 calendar days of date of position

  • Experience Requirements - Preferred:
  • Bilingual English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo

  • Bilingual English/Spanish

  • Physical Demands Requirements:
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (Frequently: activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

  • Testing Requirements:
  • Tuberculin Skin Test required annually

  • Working Conditions Requirements:
  • No or min hazard, physical risk, office environment
