Position Summary:Manage and facilitate daily production and quality; meet the customer’s expectation by managing activities and complying with contractual obligations. Provide support, training and communication to SPD management and personnel. Perform duties related to training and education for the manager, supervisors, educators and staff to include coaching, mentoring, and administrative organization. Ensure SPD compliance with the New Mexico Department of Health, JCAHO, OSHA, CDC, AAMI and AORN standards. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. No patient care assignment.Accountability:
  • MANAGE - Interview applicants, hire, train, supervise, evaluate, counsel, discipline and terminate departmental personnel

  • SUPERVISION - Plan, coordinate and direct activities of supervisory, technical professional and support staff; conduct staff meetings

  • OPERATIONS – Implement standard operating procedures, new processes and/or procedures, product conversions, new services and programs that are in alignment with the organization’s mission and vision

  • OPERATIONS - Ensures day to day operations of the unit including productivity, efficiency, fiscal, and high quality products

  • COMMUNICATIONS – Implement an efficient means of communicating between departments, employees and interdepartmental management to ensure quality, patient-focused service delivery

  • REGULATORY - Ensures proper operational processes within the NM Department of Health JCAHO, OSHA, CDC, AAMI, AORN standards and facilities policies and procedures

  • MEETINGS – conducts meetings with contracted facility management to provide timely updates of project objectives and barriers; conducts monthly meetings with IMS employees or more often as needed

  • BUDGET - Operates facility within budget per organizational standards; maintains systems for the preservation of resources including, but not limited to surgical instrumentation

  • DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops

  • Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline

  • Experience Requirements:
  • 5 years experience in leadership as a Sterile Processing Technician or Surgical Technician with knowledge of surgical instruments/principles and Infection Control practices

  • Licensure/Certification Requirements:
  • Certification from International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or Licensed Registered Nurse in State of New Mexico or as allowed by reciprocal agreement by State of New Mexico

  • Education Requirements - Preferred:
  • Master's Degree in related discipline

  • Physical Demands Requirements:
  • Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.

  • Working Conditions Requirements:
  • Sig Hazard: Chemicals, bio hazardous materials requiring extensive safety precautions and may require protective equipment
